About the AI Fellowship

AI Policy fellowship is a fully funded program, which will run a period of three months  and it is intended to apply for all professionals from a variety of backgrounds  who are seeking to strengthen and expand their practical policy  skills to secure a positive future in a world with powerful AI. 

The IAPS policy fellowship is designed to leverage the potential  and talent needed to ensure AI policy to meet the pressing challenges and emerging  changes from the frontier. So that AI policy participants will embed into the Live of AI policy field, and appropriately respond to the top priority of policy windows as well as developing  the necessary skills, resources and material to further improve their careers at leading organizations in the field of AI.

Successfully Fellows will join IAPS for a fully funded alongside guiding  and mentoring experts in the AI field, either from in-house or writing our network in order to improve their capacity  in the area of AI.

There are two types of research track to participate  and each one has a unique style to conduct AI policy fellowship. 

Research Track: This kind of research  track allows you to join an IAPS or third party supervisor at a partner organization to collaborate and produce a substantive piece of AI policy research over the period of the program. You will have the opportunity to scope any questions, ideas and insights with your supervisor in the first week of the course, then you take the role of ownership  of the analysis and writing, with frequent feedback from the research direction, method and drafting for policy audience.  The objective is to develop capability and ability to conduct rigorous research  from open questions to evidence-based outcomes,and to produce a publishable output.  Earlier fellows have published reports written during their time at IAPS.

Applied Track:  The applied track method emphasizes hand policy work instead of a single research output. You will collaborate  with supervisors on various project ideas which tailored  AI policy  and it requires adaptability to real-life, evolving situations rather than building a deep specialization on the research questions. 

This type of track is deeply suited with people from emerging fields including governments, and international development programs and operations  and grantmaking, who want to look-forward the conversions  of existing professional skills into the AI policy experience  or researchers who want to tailor research ideas to practitioners roles. Former colleagues have run workshops and supported evaluation grant applications on policy memos.

During the Fellowship

The Fellowship is expected to begin  within two weeks, in-person events in D.C, start from Feb 22 to March 5, during that time all fellowship participants are immersed in the AI policy landscape and exchange ideas with other fellows, IAPS researcher and other experts in the field of AI policy  ecosystem.

Afterwards, they will stay the remaining  10 weeks working with AI policy experts, who will guide and mentor on projects that could influence national policy or global AI policy. Key activities including chip export controls and verification technology and AI-enabled cyberattacks.Each projects are set in partnership with fellow and respond to the variety of work that contain AI policy.

In addition participants will co- work  with the leading experts in the field of AI policy and making. All successful fellows will receive 

• Weekly one to one coaching from the IAPS fellowship community coordinator focused on career development, project management and productivity 
• Regularly support from the researchers and policy staff, such as access to direct feedback on their projects,  and it will occur weekly work progress sessions and meet professional network members 
• Financially support in the area of selective cases to support career transitions

After the Fellowship

The main objective of the fellowship is intended to accelerate smooth transitions into an AI policy career as the world shifts in the area  of AI and technology advancement.  Whether you want to contribute and work in the sector of government, a think tank or industry the program is waiting for you and you will have access to skills  and knowledge and connections needed to succeed. Alumni of the fellowship program have gone most of them on to full-time roles in industry, government and at top think tanks including  AI future projects, Future of Life Institute, RAND, the Institute for Progress, the Center for Health Security, the Future Society, and IAPS.

Fellowship Overview 

Applicants may choose to undertake the fellowship in-person at our DC or hubs based in London or remotely. All the fellows are mandatory to attend the initial in-person events from the date feb 22 until march 5, 2027.
